Our ZeitHaus collection now includes a milestone in automotive history: the Hanomag 2/10 PS "Kommissbrot" (or "army loaf"), which was built in 1927. Hannoversche Maschinenbau AG (Hanomag) began manufacturing the 2/10 PS in 1925, making it the first series-production automobile with a pontoon body and mid-engine design. These two features saw more widespread use later, when mid-engines were mounted on Auto Union racecars in the 1930s and pontoon bodies were adopted in the USA in 1946. The 2/10 PS had a 502 ccm, single-cylinder engine providing 10 hp, which accelerated the vehicle to a top speed of 60 km/h (approx. 37 mph).

Thanks to its shape, which had no protruding fenders or running boards, the Hanomag was nicknamed the "Kommissbrot" (or "army loaf") due to its resemblance to this type of bread. In total, 15,775 vehicles were produced between 1925 and 1928. The 2/10 PS was originally priced at RM 1,995.
