The charging infrastructure for electric vehicles in Germany is steadily expanding in line with the progress of e-mobility. At Autostadt, we present high-performance charging stations and explain the technology behind them. Here we explain where you can charge your vehicle, how much it costs, and how charging works.
Where can I charge my vehicle on the Autostadt premises? How many charging points are there?
In our central car park, the so-called ServiceHaus car park, you will find several charging stations where you can charge your electric vehicle.
What types of charging stations are available at the Autostadt and how do they differ?
Our charging stations vary in terms of the following criteria:
- Type of current (AC = alternating current, DC = direct current)
- Power capacity
- Connection type (Type 2 (AC), CCS (DC))
- Number of charging points
Some of our so-called e-stations offer both Mennekes Type 2 connections and CCS connections, others can only be used with Mennekes Type 2 plugs. You can tell which pillar is the right one for your electric car by looking at your vehicle and the labeling of the pillars. Regarding the differences in kW capacity, the higher the capacity of a charging station, the faster the battery is charged. However, every EV battery has a minimum and a maximum charging capacity. This determines the minimum power required to charge the car and the maximum power that can be used for charging. If the power falls below the lower limit, the vehicle will not start charging. If the upper limit is exceeded, the vehicle charges with the maximum power.
We currently have different types of e-stations available on our ServiceHaus car park. You can find their features below:

How long does the charging process take?
The amount of time may vary depending on the battery, the charging station and the state of the battery charge. The car's charging electronics provide exact information once the charging process has started. You can always refer to the general guidelines.
How do I start the charging process?
Starting the charging process varies depending on the charging station. The respective charging station shows you how to start it. We will, of course, be happy to help you start the charging process on site and explain the details.
How much does the charging process cost?
Payment is made via a QR code and will be settled via the Mobility Service Provider ELLI.
Who can I contact if i need help?
The Autostadt staff will be happy to answer your questions on site. You can also request information by e-mail: feedback@autostadt.de
